ISAT U Leon Campus Joins Philippine Agriculturist’s Month
ISAT U Leon Campus proudly participated in the celebration of the 2024 Agriculturists’ Month, in accordance with Presidential Proclamation No. 544, signed on May 10, 2024. This year’s theme, “Magsasaka at Mangingisda: Katuwang sa Masaganang Bagong Pilipinas,” emphasizes the essential role of farmers and fishermen. To commemorate this occasion, the Office of the Extension Services Division (ESDO) and the Office of Safety, Security, Environment, and Disaster Mitigation Management (SSEDMMO) at ISAT U Leon Campus organized a tree-growing activity and a lecture forum.
The tree-growing activity took place on the morning of July 29, 2024, at Brgy. Lanag, Leon, Iloilo. Students, faculty, and staff actively participated under the leadership of campus administrator Dr. Gilbert Stanly D. Baylosis, planting a total of 120 seedlings. Tree-planting is crucial for environmental conservation as it combats climate change, reduces soil erosion, and enhances biodiversity. By engaging in this activity, the ISAT U community contributes to a greener, healthier environment while fostering a sense of responsibility and environmental stewardship.
In the afternoon, a lecture forum on “Empowering Rural-Based Organizations in Leon, Iloilo” was held. Mr. Ryan M. Caldito, Municipal Agriculturist of Leon, Iloilo, highlighted the vital role of farmers and agriculturists in society. He provided an overview of the Municipal Agriculture Office’s functions and encouraged students to take pride in their fields of study, offering valuable tips for achieving success in agriculture.
Dr. Eric James P. Talagon, Head of the Research Office, delivered an inspiring message about the importance of farmers in providing daily sustenance and urged students to excel in their chosen careers, whether as researchers, agricultural scientists, farmers, or agripreneurs. The forum also featured Mr. Anjelou Tano, a Young Farmers Challenge Provincial awardee, and Benjie Basco, a DA Western Visayas awardee, both students from ISAT U Leon Campus. Their stories of agricultural innovation served as a source of inspiration for their peers.
The event concluded with a special recognition ceremony where agriculture faculty and staff were presented with tokens of appreciation for their hard work and contributions. This gesture acknowledged their dedication and commitment to shaping the next generation of agricultural professionals.
