ISAT U Leon Campus Welcomes Freshmen through an Orientation Program and Campus Tour
As the opening of class for the new academic year is fast approaching, Iloilo Science and Technology University Leon Campus welcomed its freshmen through an orientation program and campus tour, held on July 30, 2026, at the ISAT U Leon Covered Gym. The venue was flooded with a sea of white T-shirts as first-year students, together with their parents, attended the program ready to be informed and oriented.
They were officially welcomed by the Campus Administrator, Dr. Gilbert Stanly D. Baylosis, with his opening remarks. Dr. Baylosis left three crucial messages for the incoming students to live up to: First, “Own your choice and your attitude,” emphasizing that students should take full responsibility for their choices, as college will not always be easy, but the difficulty they encounter does not mean that they’ve chosen the wrong program.
Second, “Expect quality and help us (ISAT U) sustain it”, encouraging students to be proud of the university’s achievements and to not simply inherit them but, at the same time, help sustain and improve them. Lastly, “ Remember that you are supported- but you must learn to stand,” reminding them that they are not alone in this new journey; they are backed up by a lot of people who will not just carry them forever but will guide them to grow independently.
The program featured several speakers who briefed and taught the students crucial takeaways to be kept in mind and familiarized with before the new school year starts. The lineup of speakers included: Dr. Garily C. Camatison, Quality Assurance Officer, who introduced the Vision, Mission, Goals, and Objectives (VMGO) of the University. The Head of the Office of Student Affairs and Services, Ms. Ma. Jessa C. Palicte, presented OSAS guidelines on Non-Academic Awards and important school activities; Ms. Nerfe T. Florendo, the Guidance Counselor, talked about the available guidance services; and Ms. Florence C. Cabancalan shared some scholarship programs.
Ms. Pearl Joy S. Andrada, the Campus Nurse and Dr. Ma. Roselyn C. Tuando, the Campus Dentist presented the services provided by the Medical and Dental Clinics; Ms. Jeremy C. Lamoste, the Gender and Development (GAD) Coordinator, discussed the RA 11313 or the Safe Space Act; Mr. Jemer S. Taguibe, the Student Republic (SR) President, reviewed the SR Penalties; and Dr. Maryflor T. Cansancio, the Head of Instruction summed up the Academic Programs and Curriculum.
Next was the presentation of the Program Coordinators: Mr. Floriel D. Atillo for the Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (BSA), Dr. Nanet T. Tadia for the Bachelor of Technical-Vocational Teacher Education (BTVTEd), Mr. Melchor D. Cala-or for the Bachelor of Technology and Livelihood Education (BTLEd), and Ms. Dianne P. Tiongson for the Bachelor of Science in Agroforestry (BSAF).
The presentation of the Academic Policies was done by Ms. Jedah Lyn C. Tanangonan, the Campus Registrar; for the safety, security, and disaster preparedness response reminders by Mr. Joebert Gagante, Head of SSEDMMO; the campus’ VLE concerns were informed by Mr. Quirino C. Aligaen Jr., Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) Coordinator; and for the system of research, Dr. Thryrone A. Ordanel, Head of Research Services, discussed the matter.
Ms. Ainy G. Layes, the Head of External Affairs Services for the Internationalization Process, and Ms. Myla S. Jaen, the Campus Librarian, shared the Rules and Regulations of the library.
After a thorough orientation, students were then guided to roam and explore the collegiate charm with the help of the school tour guides-the SR Officers and Project Managers. They were taught the directions, buildings, and areas where they would spend the upcoming four-year journey.
