ISAT U LC Launches ASEAN Food and Agriculture Exhibit 2026
Iloilo Science and Technology University Leon Campus organized an ASEAN Food and Agricultural Exhibit on August 5, 2026, at the Campus Gymnasium, anchored on the theme “Harvesting Diversity, Inspiring Progress”.
The celebration was aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals: SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). The event was led by the Head of External Affairs, Ms. Ainy G. Layes. Students, faculty, and staff members gathered together to honor the diversity of ASEAN food and agriculture.
Dr. Eric James P. Talagon, Chair, Bids and Awards Committee, imparted an inspirational message underscoring that the event is a reminder that progress begins from the ground we till and the seeds we sow.
He added that the event was more than a display of food and agricultural products but also a recognition of the hard work of our farmers, the wisdom of traditional practices, and the power of science and technology in shaping a food-secure future. He prompted everyone that when we support local agriculture, we also nourish the communities, and when we embrace education, we grow leaders. When we build partnerships, we harvest progress.
The celebration also presented two resource speakers, first Mr. Jezrel M. Caingcoy on behalf of Mr. Ryan M. Caldito, Municipal Agriculturist Officer; his speech centered on the role of youths in Agriculture. In his message, he emphasized to the audience the thought about who made their breakfast possible, highlighting that the event did not solely celebrate food festivity but also the people behind it.
He added that one day, the youths will not only replace farmers but will surely shape the future of agriculture.
The second resource speaker was Hon. Jethro M. Caigoy, SB Member, Committee on Education; and his topic was grounded in the Cultivation of Knowledge, Empowering ASEAN through Sustainable Education. In his speech, he highlighted the deep significance of sustainable education to the lives of the youth, underlining that it is the only asset that no flood can wash away, no crisis can destroy, and no distance can diminish.
To easily carry the spirit of ASEAN, he created an acronym for everyone present to remember: A for A Unity in Diversity and Shared Identity, S for Solidarity and Unyielding Resilience, E for Empathy and Holistic Nurturing, A for Aspiration and Sustainable Growth, and N for Nurturing the Next Generation. Before he ended his speech, he left a memorable message saying, “Education is our greatest equalizer and our strongest bridge”.
The event concluded with the cutting of the exhibit’s ribbon, headed by Dr. Gilbert Stanly D. Baylosis, Campus Administrator, together with Dr. Corazon C. Corbal, Vice President for Academic Affairs, the resource speakers, faculty, staff, and students.
