The Bachelor of Science in Agriculture 2nd Year students explore the post-harvest facilities in the food terminal of Leon

BSA 2nd year students enrolled in Agri 19: Post Harvest Handling and Seed Technology under the classes of Dr. Eric James P. Talagon and Mr. Melchor D. Cala-or visited the Post-harvest Facilities, Biocon Laboratory and the Farmer Information Training Service (FITS) Center of LGU Leon.

Mr. Ryan Caldito, Municipal Agriculturist, oriented the students with the current and ongoing programs and projects in agriculture. With him was Hon. Hilario E. Taňo, SB Member and Chair Committee on Agriculture and Cooperative, who inspired the students by giving emphasis that agriculture is not just an art and science but as an agribusiness towards food sufficiency and sustainability.

The ocular inspection of the hot water treatment facility for mango, the food processing facility for dried mangoes, banana chips, malunggay and turmeric, the biological control laboratory (Trichogramma and Earwigs), and the FITS Center were visited by the students.

The goal of this activity is for the students to be aware  that post-harvest management is a system of handling, storing and transporting agricultural commodities after harvest and to be cognizant of the modern post-harvest facilities that could be an avenue for hands on and researches in the future.
