
Inauguration of the Smart Agriculture Drip Irrigation System
Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT U) inaugurated the Smart Agriculture Drip Irrigation System on October 10, 2024, at Brgy. Isian Victoria, Leon, Iloilo. This initiative is a key component of the Department of Science and Technology’s (DOST) Grants-in-Aid (GIA) program, forming part of a larger project focused on Natural Fiber and Textile Development in the Province of Iloilo. The event showcased the implementation and functionality of a state-of-the-art drip irrigation system, tailored for pineapple and cotton cultivation. The project aims to introduce smart agriculture practices that enhance productivity and sustainability in fiber-producing communities across Iloilo.
Notable attendees included ISAT U officials, such as Dr. Gabriel M. Salistre Jr., University President, and Dr. Carmelo V. Ambot, Vice President for Research and Extension. DOST was represented by Engr. Sheila L. Oberio, Director of Iloilo Provincial Science and Technology. SB Member Hilario “Larry” Taño, Chair of the Agriculture Committee, represented the municipality of Leon. The farmers of Brgy. Isian Victoria, led by Mr. Joefil Cabalfin, President of the Brgy. Isian Farmers Association, were present as the project’s primary beneficiaries. Community members also attended, headed by Punong Barangay Jaime A. Cabrieto.
This initiative marks a significant step toward modernizing agricultural practices in the region, promising to uplift local farming communities. With ongoing support and innovation, the Smart Agriculture Drip Irrigation System is poised to transform the landscape of agriculture in Iloilo.
