Iloilo Science and Technology University Leon Campus Hosts Laro ng Lahi

    Iloilo Science and Technology University celebrated its 8th Charter Anniversary with the theme, “Breakthroughs and Transformation: A Celebration”. It was a weeklong celebration and one of the major events was the Laro ng Lahi hosted by ISAT U Leon Campus last May 18, 2023. It was participated by officials, faculty, staff and students from different campuses.

     Laro ng Lahi simply means “games of our culture”. Traditional games were used to play by people in the past. It was part of Filipinos’ identity and culture thus it is important to bring back memories and play these indigenous games.

     In the morning there was a ceremonial tree planting by Dr. Raul F. Muyong, University President, Dr. Corazon C. Corbal, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Gabriel M. Salistre, Jr. Vice President for Administration and Finance and Dr. Julito C. Aligaen, Campus Administrator. They planted seedlings of avocado and apple fruit trees.

      Dr. Julito C. Aligaen of the host university warmly welcomed all the guests and participants from different campuses. Dr. Raul F. Muyong, University President gave his message stressing on the importance of playing indigenous games. He officially declared the opening of Laro ng Lahi with great enthusiasm, encouraging everyone to join and strengthen the values of teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship. “Let’s be children again”, he said.

     Traditional games played were Going to the Market, Sack Race, Kadang-Kadang, Kick, Chinese Garter and Pok-pok Palayok. Every campus players excitedly participated in this Laro ng Lahi.

      The gym was filled with yells and laughter as spectators cheered for their respective campuses. The winners happily received a pack of vegetables and cash prizes.
