Fire Prevention Educational Symposium: Sa Pag- Iwas sa Sunog, Hindi ka Nag-iisa
The ISAT-U Leon Campus, Office of Safety, Security, Environment and Disaster Mitigation Management (SSEDMMO), in collaboration with Gender and Development, conducted the “Fire Prevention Educational Symposium: Sa Pag-Iwas sa Sunog, Hindi Ka Nag-iisa” last Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at the school library. The symposium aimed to raise awareness on disaster preparedness and safety for the men and women of the university. Its goal was to equip them with knowledge and skills for preparedness before, during, and after fire emergencies in the locality.
The lectures and drills were spearheaded by personnel from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in the municipality of Leon. Senior Fire Officer III John Terre, Acting Municipal Fire Marshall, delivered his message and emphasized the importance of safety.
Moreover, Senior Fire Officer II Arvy John Mosquera conducted lectures and demonstrations, covering topics such as the use of various fire extinguishers and potential hazards caused by LPG. Furthermore, he discussed the tasks of the ISAT U Leon Campus School Emergency Response Team, which includes communication, firefighting, rescue and first aid, security and evacuation . The team was headed by Dr. Rafael C. Cabarles, Search and Rescue Team Chief, and assisted by Marlou C. Campollo serving as Assistant Search and Rescue Team Chief.
After the symposium, a fire drill was conducted. Faculty, staff, and students actively engaged in their designated roles during the drill. Personnel from the BFP assessed the performance of the ISAT U Leon Campus School Emergency Response Team. Senior Fire Officer II Grysler M. Medianero announced with satisfaction that the team achieved a score of 8 out of 10, indicating a successful completion of the fire drill. Additionally, he proposed several suggestions to enhance the drill further.
