WESVAARDEC holds 1st Quarter Joint Executive Board and RRDCC meeting at STI West Negros University

The Western Visayas Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development Consortium (WESVAARDEC) successfully held its 1st Quarter Joint Executive Board (EB) and Regional Research and Development Coordinating Council (RRDCC) Meeting on March 14, 2025, hosted by STI West Negros University in Bacolod City.

The event gathered key officials, researchers, and institutional representatives from across the region to discuss priority agendas, program updates, and research initiatives for the year’s first quarter. Among the attendees were Dr. Gilbert Stanly D. Baylosis, Campus Administrator, Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT U) – Leon Campus, and Ms. Keith S. Guantero, Head of Extension Services Division Office of ISAT U, who represented the institution to support the region’s collaborative efforts in research and development.

The meeting focused on strengthening partnerships and realigning strategic goals to advance agriculture, fisheries, natural resources, and community development innovations. Updates on funded research, extension initiatives, and capacity-building activities were presented, alongside proposals for inter-agency collaboration and future training programs. WESVAARDEC officials emphasized the importance of aligning institutional priorities with the national agenda on science, technology, and innovation, especially in climate change and digital transformation.

In a brief statement, Guantero expressed appreciation for the opportunity to be part of a dynamic and visionary network. “As a higher learning institution offering agriculture as one of its curricular programs, we are truly honored to be a part of this consortium that strives to provide innovative solutions in the AANR sector,” she said.

As a regional consortium under the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARRD), WESVAARDEC continues to play a vital role in harmonizing research efforts in Region VI, promoting inclusive growth, and ensuring that scientific knowledge reaches farmers, fisherfolks, and rural communities.

The meeting concluded with renewed commitments from member institutions to foster innovation, enhance collaboration, and pursue excellence in research and extension.
