Bridging Cultures: ISAT U Leon Hosts ‘Language Beyond Words’ Cultural Exchange with Japanese Students
ISAT U Leon Campus proudly hosted “Language Beyond Words: Understanding Culture and Identity Across Borders” on March 6, 2026, at the 2nd Floor Function Hall of the Library, in collaboration with visiting students from the National Institute of Technology Sasebo College, Japan. The activity aimed to foster cultural exchange, deepen understanding of Filipino values, local traditions, and community practices, and provide a platform to learn about Japanese language and culture alongside ISAT U Leon student leaders.
During the program, Ms. Nerfe T. Florendo, Guidance Counselor III, facilitated an interactive session where participants introduced themselves and shared aspects of their cultural identities. Mr. Anjelo C. Taño, Student Ambassador, highlighted the rich cultural heritage of Leon, Iloilo, and showcased the campus’ agricultural learning facilities. Participants also engaged in traditional local dances led by Ms. Sarah Jane C. Camarino, Faculty and Cultural Affairs Coordinator, guided by ISAT U Leon student leaders.
The visiting Japanese students, Mr. Fuga Matsunaga, Mr. Kouki Mori, and Mr. Yuma Kubo, Control Engineering students, shared common Japanese phrases, cultural insights, and traditional games. The program concluded with a campus tour, where the visitors explored ISAT U Leon’s agricultural learning facilities, including the piggery, multiplier farm, and poultry area, observing and interacting with the campus’ farm animals.
Through the efforts of the External Affairs Office, this cultural exchange offered a meaningful platform for students to share cultures, strengthen international friendships, and experience firsthand how language can connect people beyond words.
