ISAT U Leon Campus Launches the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women
The ISAT U Leon Campus officially joined the nationwide 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW) on December 2, 2024. The campaign, observed annually from November 25 to December 12, carries the theme “VAW Bigyan Wakas, Ngayon na ang Oras” for this year. This initiative was spearheaded by Jeremy C. Lamoste, the Gender and Development (GAD) coordinator of the campus. This initiative aims to raise awareness about gender-based violence and inspire collective action to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls. It highlights the importance of promoting gender equality, safeguarding human rights, and fostering a safe environment for everyone.
The campus campaign kicked off with the Parada to End VAW 2024, which drew enthusiastic participation from faculty, staff, and students. Faculty and staff wore orange T-shirts featuring the campaign’s theme, symbolizing their solidarity with the cause. Students actively participated in the parade, proudly carrying banners advocating to end violence against women. Each class also presented a muse representative for the Orange Your Attire Contest, which highlighted creativity and advocacy. Participants showcased outfits crafted from indigenous and recyclable materials, reflecting the campaign’s spirit of sustainability and social awareness.
The morning activities were followed by a symposium on RA 9262 (Violence Against Women and Their Children) and RA 7877 (Anti-Sexual Harassment Act of 1995). Police Staff Sergeant Caren Grace C. Pantua, the resource speaker provided an in-depth discussion on these laws, covering their purpose, scope, protections, and the corresponding legal obligations and penalties.
In the afternoon, contestants of the Orange Your Attire Contest showcased their creative outfits. Following the presentations, winners of both the contest and the EVAW Banner Contest were announced and recognized with awards marking the culmination of a day filled with advocacy, education, and community engagement.
Through these activities, ISAT U Leon Campus reaffirmed its commitment to creating a safe and inclusive environment while supporting the nationwide call to end violence against women.
