ISAT U Leon Campus Conducts Research Stakeholders Consultative Meeting 2024
On Friday, March 1, 2024, at the ISAT-U Leon campus, the Office of the Research Services Department, led by Dr. James P. Talagon, conducted a research stakeholders’ consultative meeting. This initiative aimed to pursue academic excellence and pioneering research, ensuring that research initiatives remain relevant, impactful, and aligned with society’s needs.
Among the attendees were the faculty members of the university, as well as research experts: Larry E. Taño, an SB member from Leon, Iloilo; Ryan Caldito, head of the Municipal Agriculture Office in the same town; and Dr. Hedilyn Catanus, research focal person in the municipality of Leon. Representatives from parents, alumni, and students, as stakeholders, also participated in the activity.
Lester F. Legaspi, the Research Chair for Agriculture, presented the university’s research and development agenda. He emphasized that the research is anchored within regional, national, and UN sustainable goals. The overall theme of the ISAT U Leon Campus research program is “Generating Research Opportunities and Innovation in Sustainable Agriculture, Agroforestry, Agricultural Engineering, Fisheries, Livelihood, and Educational Technologies”.
The first time the ISAT U Leon Campus introduced research program themes for each program marked a significant milestone. Furthermore, each coordinator explained the research goals and themes for their respective programs. Joylyn C. Cabarles, the research coordinator for BS Agriculture, unveiled F4E (Food, Fiber, Floriculture, and Enterprise Development) and C2O2 (Climate Change, Organic Agriculture, Organisms for Pest Control, and Soil Amelioration) as the research program themes for BSA. May Flor M. Tacardon presented STEPS (Sustainable Education and Technology for Ecologically-based Practices for Society) for BS Agroforestry. Riza Mae Andoloy, representing Garily C. Camatison, introduced ITEACH (Integration of Technological and Educational Approaches in Curriculum, Human and Gender Development) and ICREATE (Integration in Curriculum of Research and Evaluation in Agri-Fishery Technology and Livelihood Education) for BTLED. Jeremy C. Lamoste, GAD coordinator, presented her proposed research topic related to gender and development. These presentations were followed by an open discussion, inviting suggestions and critiques from experts and stakeholders.
Experts and stakeholders expressed approval of the research program themes for each program, with no further comments. Larry E. Taño and Ryan Caldito conveyed their eagerness to collaborate with the university in supporting local farmers and the agriculture sector. Dr. Hedilyn Catanus emphasized the necessity of keeping teachers updated with the latest trends in education to align with ongoing research. She also expressed anticipation for collaboration between Leon National High School and ISAT U Leon Campus. Additionally, Rolando Caldito, a representative from the Alumni Association, underscored the importance of students’ passion for their major in Agriculture.
The activity fosters open communication with stakeholders and strengthens collaboration with the government, other academic institution, students, alumni, parents, and the community.
